Reader Response: Heatfree Twist and Curl by Symenthia

Recently Symenthia sent me some pictures of a curly hairstyle that she loves to do. I thought it was definitely something to share!
What do you do to prep for this style?

I wash my hair with shampoo. Then twice a month I use a deep conditioner and sit under a hooded dryer for 15-30 minutes. Rinse, then apply a generous amount of the moisturizing lotion to the hair.
I section my hair in 12 sections, detangle, and do the 2-strand twist to each section. I then put flex rods on each section and roll it up.
I then let my hair air dry (normally overnight) with a satin cap on then take out flex rods and twist. Tada, naturally pretty healthy looking
curls!!!
What products did you use?

I use Organix brand shampoo, they have a variety of different scents, etc without the harsh products that strip the hair. For a deep conditioner I’ve always used UBH (Ultra Black Hair) Deep Conditioner that I love dearly. For when I wear my hair 100% natural, like in this style, I use Kids Organics Detangling and Moisturizing Lotion (this is the same moisturizing I use on my daughter’s hair).
How much time did it take to do this style?

If it’s the time to deep condition my hair this style takes about an hour (not including drying time) without conditioning it takes only about 30 minutes. I normally do this regimen right before bed time.
How did you do this style?

I use a bobby pin on each side of my hair to pull it back and two for my bump….I just moved the hair higher or lower to change it up and different hair accessories/clips to accent.
How do you preserve this style and make it last?

To preserve the style I use a satin wrap on my edges, to keep them trained to stay down without using gel or hair spray, and then a satin bonnet over the whole head. When I wake in the morning I just apply some more moisturizer and shake the hair a little to give the curls bounce and go! (so easy I love it!!)
How long does the style last?

This style lasts for a week and probably longer but I wash my hair weekly.
I really appreciate Kendra and her blog it has helped me so much to be more comfortable with my 100% natural state!!!! I used to cringe at the thought of leaving the house without my hair being flat ironed!! My hair being flat ironed all the time was a weight in ways I didn’t even realized until I went natural. I would have to press through the flesh to give myself completely to God and shout and right after would be grabbing my purse and heading for the bathroom to try and brush my hair back down! Now I wear this style to work, church, and outings and have received lots of complements and have had totally liberty at church!! I don’t have to worry about “shouting my hair out” and it’s great!!! When I’m out and about running errands in our town and it starts to rain I don’t have to freak out because of my hair and still look like a nice apostolic witness. Thanks Kendra!!! I’m so glad that our paths crossed!! You have helped me go ahead and let go and let God!! Thanks!!!
Love this girl! So glad we met too :) hope you find her tips helpful! Happy styling!!
