Healthy Hair, Healthy Lifestyle: My Nutritional Goals

Hello ladies! Today I want to talk about my nutrition goals. I am a very busy person so eating unhealthy, not sleeping enough, and not exercising can take a toll on me. For the past month my husband and I have been making a push to get healthy.

My background health wise:
I have always been huge on fitness, exercise and eating right. It's something my parents instilled in me. We ate healthy home cooked meals, fruits, veggies, whole wheat products, etc. I was also very active growing up. I played basketball, ran track and made it a point to always work out whether running or consistently visiting the gym. My husband played soccer and was a collegiate track athlete (before we got into church). So our upbringings regarding health and fitness are very similar.

Nutrition

It has been proven that 6 small meals a day is much better than 3 large ones because it keeps your metabolism working. A normal days meals for me consists of:

-Breakfast: Coffee, and raisin bran cereal (or a boiled egg with toast)
-Morning Snack: Light yogurt and a banana
-Lunch: spring salad, turkey sandwich on whole wheat and blueberries
-Afternoon Snack: Pretzels or fruit with hot tea
-Dinner: Baked chicken, veggies, salad and brown rice (dinners vary but this is the make up- meat, a carb, salad and veggies)
-Dessert: Frozen yogurt with fresh fruit or fresh fruit

I also intake between 48-64 oz of water daily.

Small changes for big results

1. No more late night junk food: generally on Wednesday night after church or Sunday after church we go out to eat and fellowship. If my husband and I eat, we share a plate and make healthy choices. Rather than a burger and fries we opt for sandwiches, gyros, etc. We eat less, spend less and still have a great time!

2. Cutting out 99% of fried food: this is my choice. For now I am not having any. I know at times it will be avoidable but this is a major area that can pack on pounds. So I am steering clear of fried foods!

3. No more soda: period. I have done it once before. I cut it out for 2 years but picked the bad habit back up. Yuck it's so bad for you!! No more sodas for me.

Do I feel any different?

As I said, I have been doing this for about a month. YES I feel great! I sleep better, I don't feel that gross-EW-I-over-ate feeling, and I have more energy.

Also my tummy has trimmed down quite a bit just from changing my eating!! So I am happy about that :)

What's next?

Nailing down a fitness routine.. I will keep you posted!

My advice:

Eating healthy isn't about crash dieting, feeling like you are left out because you can't have the good stuff or just being bored with your meals. It's about making healthier choices and taking control. If we are honest most of us have acquired out of control eating habits. So I am challenging YOU, yes you, to start making healthier choices. Remember you are what you eat. What you eat today will affect you in the future!
