Think and Discuss: Ignorance of Others

Today I wore my hair in a day 2 wash and go. I felt super confident about it! My curls were popping everywhere, its big, fluffy and I have a cute red flower in it. When I got to work this morning several co-workers complimented me about my curls...

Well later this afternoon another co-worker came to my desk and asked, "did you cut your hair?"

I said, "No... its just really curly."

He replied, "I thought you said it was down your back."

I told him, "It is. Its just very tightly curled... (as I pull my hair down to show him the real length)"

He says, "Woah, its like double what it looks like!"

I repeated, "It's just very tightly curled"

Have you ever had a time that you allowed the comments of others to destroy how you felt about your hair? This used to be major problem for me. I can't lie- what he said did get under my skin. But I have come to understand that a lot of people have no idea what our hair is really like. So they say things out of ignorance. Yet, sometimes their comments are rude, condescending and just hurtful.

Have you ever had a situation like this? What do you do when people make ignorant comments to you about your hair?
