On the Couch with Naturals: Jasmine Robinson

Hello all! Jasmine is a cutie pie that goes to my church. She is super down to earth, has awesome style, and makes some of the cutest crafts (crotched hats, headbands, etc) but best of all she loves the Lord and lives a life of holiness and consecration to the Lord. I have asked her about her natural hair and hair care.. Let's see what she has to say..

Tell us what ethnicity you are.
I'm 25%japanese and 75%black

Can you describe your hair type? Is it easy to work with? What challenges have you faced?
I have curly hair. My curl pattern is loose curls. And very frizzy hair. My hair is only easy to work with when it is combed through all the way. Cuz the tangles can be difficult. And having frizzy hair is hard when you are trying to style your hair for a sleek style.. So I learn to keep it maintained by keeping it tamed with certain products. I also learned to braid my hair before it drys makes it easier to comb through.

What are your favorite hair products?
One of my favorite products is living proof frizz; you can find it at sephora. It goes a long way. And works really good because it keeps the frizz down and gives you nice waves. The second is organic root stimulator olive oil wrap/set mousse. I use it for fly aways.

How often do you wash and condition your hair? Do you use a deep conditioner?
I wash my hair with shampoo every other day. And condition it every 2 days. I use naturals by pantene shampoo and conditioner. And dove damage theraphy shampoo.

Describe a normal everyday style for you. How long does it take?
A normal everyday style for me is a ponytail. I scrunch the back and wear it wet. Half up and down do. I also wear buns. And sometimes just a wash and go.

I know that sometimes you wear your hair straight. What do you use to straighten it? How do you maintain it straight?
I use the living proof frizz straight making and run it through my scalp and I do this on dry hair with nothing on it. Then I spray flat iron protection before (I use it on the section that I am about to straighten). I have a hair straightener that is for all hair types it goes off of the thickness of your hair and sets the right temperature for your hair type. It's called ghd. I got it at Sephora... it's very pricey but works very well. Only takes15 min to straighten my whole head.

(Yes, that is Chelsyea. Jasmine was just in NY and they met up!)

What struggles have you faced with your hair in the church? Have people ever critiqued your hair or looked down on it?
umm struggles in church would just be the frizz. Not really they actually like it better when I don't try hard. So that's why I keep it simple.

What is a normal Sunday style for you?
It depends on the outfit. Maybe down or sometimes an up do.

What encouragement would you like to give to all those reading?
I would say find out what works best for your hair. And learn how to bring out the good qualities of your hair. What you eat makes a big difference and the amount of time that you spend on your hair. You are what you eat. If you eat healthy you will have healthy shiny hair!
