Remember Shannon??
Shannon gave us her hair testimony over a year ago. Click here to read it!
Let's see how she has been doing since!..
What is your current regimen? Has it changed?
hmm...idk if I ever really HAD a hair regimen. lol. I much follow what my hair wants as long as my energy level permits. :) I wash about once a week and usually with a sulfate shampoo because I am still not convinced that a non-sulfate shampoo will cleanse my hair. I tend to use quite a bit of product in my hair and by the time wash day comes I want my hair CLEAN! I do the ApHogee two step protein treatment every couple months and deep condition about every two weeks.
My styling regimen varies with my moods, I'll do buns for 3 weeks and then switch to flat ironing for 3 weeks and then switch to braidouts &bantu knot outs. It really just depends my mood and what is going on in my life at that time.
Since you have been natural for quite some time now, are you becoming more adapted to natural hair as a lifestyle?
Funny thing is I don't feel like I am. I feel like a newbie. My hair seems to be changing so much the further I get into my natural hair journey that sometimes it feels like I've started all over again.
What are some challenges you have faced with natural hair? Have have you overcome them- or how are you working to overcome them?
Oh boy I could write a book on this question alone. The hair in the front is STRAIGHT and the rest is curly! I just don't try the whole wash-n-go thing I do twists outs/braids outs etc. so you never see the difference in textures. I have experienced some breakage around the front hairline but the hair is growing back quick and seems to be coming in curly so I'm not worried anymore. The thickness can also be a bit overwhelming at times but I am learning to embrace it.
What are some of your favorite styles?
My favorite style is doing two-strand twist or large plaits, rolling with perm rods and then taking the twists out.
Have you noticed growth?
A little bit of length, it's hard for me to notice without looking at pics because I see my hair everyday. I am eager for it to grow longer!
If you could give all of the readers some advice, what would it be?
Take your time! Do not get caught up in the latest natural hair trends and topics. Our hair is unique to each of us no need to try and mirror someone else's hair regimen.
Doesn't her hair look great? Hope this inspires you. Thank you for sharing Shannon!
