Chronicles of a Natural Apostolic: Straight Hair, Please Share (Part 2)

Hello there beautiful ladies :) I straighted my hair this Easter because I was in the mood to do something different. I rarely do this but it is fun when I do! So this is what it looked like....

To show you the difference between last time and now :)

Sorry the perspective is off BUT you can see the difference in growth for sure. Probably about an inch and a half or so. I am getting very close to bra strap length!!

How did I do it?
  • While dry, I combed out my hair using my oil moisturizing hair lotion and tangle teezer. I separated my hair into 6 sections.
  • Once I finished combing it out, I threw the sections into 6 large bantu knots.
  • The next day I took them down one section at a time to straighten my hair.
    • I heated my flat iron to 325 degrees.
    • Taking very small sections I gently flat ironed my hair
How long did it take? It took about an hour and a half. I went very slow and I was very careful not to pull hard on my hair.

How straight is "straight"? If you notice in the pictures, my hair is not "bone straight". The reason is because I am not interested in burning my hair or getting it so straight that it won't revert back to its natural state. Furthermore, my hair was meant to be curly, not straight SO its going to frizz up anyway :)

What heat protectant did you use? I used my oil moisturizing hair lotion as a heat protectant. I noticed a large difference in the softness of my hair because last time I did not use a heat protectant.

How long does it last? I generally only wear it 5-7 days because it is hard to properly moisturize without water!
